Preparing to Fast and Pray
Start Date: February 18, Ash Wednesday

Fasting and praying are not afterthoughts. It requires a God driven purpose and a committing spirit toward God to even access this portal of faith. There may be any number of realities that bring us to our knees and/or that motivates our hearts and minds to ask God for help! That help is needed in order to break chains, to overcome the wiles of the enemy, to abort sickness, discredit poverty, and much more.
Fasting and praying is not a begging or bartering session. It is however a reaching and seeking of instructions to move forward in Christ and guidance for the rest of the course. It is free to access but not attainable without the work, the trust, the stealing away for time with Him.
First pray the model prayer (Matthew 6) and the prayer of repentance (Psalm 51).
Wait for God’s lead, then begin the Faith walk!
Here are 6 steps for starting your Fasting and Praying…
1. Confession, Repentance, Reclaiming…
- Matthew 4:17
- Revelations 2: 4,5
2. Position yourself to Listen…In order to hear God’s voice of direction one must be stationary and waiting. Only the Holy Spirit will lead and guide your choices for this fast.
3. Be Intentional…the petitions you lay before God cannot be selfish. They should be motivated by spiritual need, not human wants.
4. Take action with Holy Boldness. Believe and receive for God’s will. Matthew 7:7-8, ask, seek, knock is one way to approach this point. Selfish requests will be voided. Remember God honors those who honor Him. Get started with the model prayer.
5. Stay in a mode of praise, it will confuse the enemy! Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, Matthew 5:12, and again I say rejoice. While you are fasting and praying, sing songs of Zion.
6. Completion by His Word. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The task before you will be worth it, and while your answers may not be immediate, they will manifest and render a great harvest, better days, and spiritual growth. Man is flawed without God, so trust him for all things and never doubt.
- John 15:5
- Acts 17: 19-21
- Revelations 5:5
- Revelations 19: 11-16
